Earlier today, Boston rapper Mike Mckenzie announced the release of his new mixtape Stand By. Not your typical rapper, McKenzie has strayed away from commercial rap and is bringing real hip-hop back. His lyrics tell uplifting stories of real life scenarios which all audiences can enjoy and relate too. McKenzie was once quoted, “Anyone can rap by just taking a couple of words and putting them together but that doesn’t make you a rapper if there’s no passion and story behind those words.”
The album offers a variety of sounds, from a cultural feel with booming drums in his track “Coolin” to the fast paced club banging hit “Drop It Low”. His first single “Imma Star” off Stand By is a fun-felt melody speaking of him on the rise to fame featuring The Real P of the Famous Nobodies. The single is also accompanied by a music video where he displays his spontaneous personality.
